Pin Up Calendar 1962

Pin Up Calendar 1962

So it finally happened. Today is the day that I found something at a random garage sale that made me actually hyperventilate. Unfortunately, me losing my cool over this item resulted in me completely failing at trying to talk down the little old lady who wore a full oxygen mask while hosting the sale. I did manage to get $10 knocked off the rather hefty price, but I would have paid full price had I absolutely had to. She was a sharp cookie, I have to admit! It didn’t help that I nearly burst into tears a few moments after starting the hyperventilation process. Can’t win em all!

So here it is, a fantastic condition 1962 Pin Up Girl calendar, complete with all months and a whole lot of va-va-va-voom. Neat, right? But not really hyperventilation worthy. Until you notice the address. 8112 N. Denver. Portland Or. Guess what street my shop is located on? N. Denver in Portland Or – AMAZING right? YES!

I know what you are asking yourselves, “Nice pin up, but really – hyperventilation? What’s wrong with this gal?” Well, hopefully this next picture will help seal the case for my total loss of composure. It’s a snap of the front of my store taken about 5 minutes ago.

8112 N. Denver.  The address of my shop Kenton Antiques. The very same address that is on this 1962 Pin Up Calendar for the Tea Garden Cafe, the restaurant that was in this space during part of the 1950s & 1960s!

HOLY AMAZING!! I have a few old timers who have brought me various trinkets – an ashtray here, a soy sauce dish there – all bearing the Tea Garden Cafe name with the address included. Each time, I’ve marveled at how great it would be to find something linking the past life of my shop to the present day. Never in a million years did I think that i’d actually find something myself, much less something so infinitely cooler than a little sauce dish. I probably would have nearly hyperventilated if the calendar had been a bamboo mat depiction of an English country cottage which I’ve seen so many times as advertising from that era. To have a full blown, vixen pin up calendar is….well, it’s tits really! :Wink Wink! This gem will never be for sale, but it will be a huge source of pride on my wall for decades to come!! Have you ever found something while out picking that caused you to totally lose your cool? If so, I’d love to hear about it! :) Happy hunting!
