So, if you read my last post, you can see my clear obsession with found photographs.
Now it is time to take it to the next level!
This next Thursday from 5-8pm Kenton hosts its monthly Art Walk, and instead of finding an artist to host this month, I got the idea into my head to frame some of my favorite photographs from my personal collection and present them for your enjoyment.
It is hard to explain why I choose the photos I do. It’s a visceral feeling inside that is drawn to something, the angle of a roof, the cheeky grin on a chubby child, the rust on an old bumper. Something about these juxtaposed images each tugs at something inside me that is familiar, important. It’s that sense of nostalgia all over again, the homesickness for a home that was never mine. However, it has been in finding these photographs, in various bins, drawers, shop baskets, and otherwise forgotten spaces, that I’ve recovered not just a piece of someone’s forgotten history, but discovered a bit of my own.
So, please come by Thursday March 17th, 5pm-8pm to check out the collection, and if you feel that tug for yourself, all pieces will be available for sale.
Kenton Antiques, 8112 N. Denver Ave Portland OR 97217.
There is street parking, and Kenton is just off the Max Yellow line, by the Paul Bunyan!
Also, be sure to check out the other great spots on the stretch that will also be hosting art, music and entertainment. It is St. Patty’s day, so I’ll see if I can dye the wine green. ;D
